it’s just hard*

a psychotherapy practice with a deeply felt respect for the ways we all struggle

Liz Goggin, MA, LCSW

I come to this work honestly and am inspired by the experience of interrupting intergenerational legacies of trauma, alienation, and disconnectedness. I have spent my career working with individuals, families, and groups to support healing from challenges related to trauma, addiction, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, and difficulties with change, including perinatal mental health. I am an LGBTQ+ and POC ally with a strong commitment to serving people from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. I welcome those with criminal records to reach out for support.

* A note on why I like the phrase “it’s just hard”: it’s rooted in opposition to overrepresentation of positivity and optimism in our culture and the idea that healing is linear. We live in complex times and things are hard. I believe acknowledging this reality may open up space for more awareness and possibility to show up in our work together.

Services

Individual

I offer individually tailored psychotherapy based on my extensive training and experience with internal family systems (IFS), relational/psychodynamic practice, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), interpersonal therapy (IPT), and motivational interviewing.

Couples & Relationship Counseling

Relationships are essential to our survival, yet they can be the sources of our greatest stress. I work with couples and other dyads to support meaningful shifts in reactivity, deeper understanding, and enhanced ability to communicate and connect.

Groups

I have been running psychotherapy groups for over a decade and have seen growth and healing among participants through intergroup connectedness. I am intermittently offering groups for individuals struggling with addiction and parents/caregivers looking for increased fulfillment.

Consultation & Supervision

I love working with other trainees and professionals in our field. I am available to support fellow therapists using IFS for the treatment of addiction and trauma through clinical consultation. I have also supported MSW students and graduates with clinical supervision. Please reach out if you think my skills may be a good fit for you and the growth of your practice.

Contact us

Please feel to reach out to inquire about working together. If possible, briefly describe the type of support you are looking for and where you are located geographically. I will reach back out to schedule a consultation or discuss other options for care.
